Star Sign backgrounds
5th Edition’s classic backgrounds are all fine and good, but what if your character has done a whole bunch of different things? Or they’re an amnesiac? Maybe they have never lived in a particular place or had any notable profession, somehow? What if you just refuse to write a backstory for them? Well, we have a solution for you.
With our Star Sign backgrounds, you can build a character without having to lean on their personal history to do it. That way, you can easily have a character with a history that doesn’t fit any of the vanilla backgrounds—or a character with no or minimal history—without having character building become extra weird. Of course, if you’re interested in astrology and would like to incorporate it into your Dungeons and Dragons world, or if you’re interested in adding a sort of mystical flavor to your world, these backgrounds work wonders!
Aside from the benefits of a new kind of background, the simplest upside to our Star Sign backgrounds is that there are a dozen of them. For an average 4-hero adventuring party, each player can make a character, a backup character, and a backup backup character before anyone has to use a sign more than once. That’s a lot of storytelling before you have to repeat, and remember, you can still make two Scorpios who are really different, the same way we’ve been making very different Soldiers or Acolytes since the PHB first came out.
Up until now, the only way to get all twelve Star Sign backgrounds was to be one of our patrons on Patreon, but as of today, the full set is entirely free! For the entire month of April, you’ll be able to download the complete PDF on our store. However, after April, Star Signs will return to our premium vault. So, in the meantime, after you get the background set, tell your players, tell your DMs, tell your beloved grandma and your uncle who you hate, so that all of them can get while the background getting is good.
