Dreamwalker Remastered

Dreams are powerful things, even when they aren’t real. Our latest remaster, however, is the expert at bringing the unreal into the real, and at blurring the distinction between the two all the while. Sorcerer is long overdue for an illusionist archetype, and the dreamwalker is more than equipped to leave its adversaries and friends alike unclear on what is real and what is just a twist of their senses. We hope you enjoy doing the twisting!

If you dream of more delightful homebrew, then dream no longer; our Patreon is full of tasty brews for you to enjoy in the definitely real waking world right now. Meanwhile, if a new homebrew idea came to you in a dream, or some other normal way, let us know on Discord, and we can make your nightmare-brew into a real monster!

Our dream is to get donations from kind strangers like you!

Dreamwalker

All thinking creatures have a connection to the astral plane, as the plane itself is the synthesis of those creatures’ dreams. These dreams coalesce into unknowable beings In the deep, far-flung reaches of endless astral dust. These abstract figures can peer back into the dreams of slumbering souls, searching for something—what, they do not know. When one of these dream-beings becomes infatuated with a particularly vivid dreamer, they can imbue that creature with a deep connection to the astral sea, imparting upon them unusual powers.

Those who are graced with such gifts become powerful spellcasters—quite literally overnight. Known as Dreamwalkers, these souls can channel ideas within the astral plane into the waking world, conjuring powerful illusions made of dreamstuff and bending the minds of others using the surreal unlogic that permeates the plane of dreams. As their powers grow, Dreamwalkers learn to reach out to the dreams of others and bring their companions with them into another’s sleeping moments. Such dreams can even be used as a bridge through which to travel the material plane.

Astral Spells

1st-level Dreamwalker feature

You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Astral Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.

Whenever you gain a sorcerer level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must be an enchantment or illusion spell from the sorcerer, warlock, or wizard spell list.

Astral Spells

Sorcerer Level Spells

1st sanctuary, sleep

3rd calm emotions, silence

5th sending, slow

7th confusion, phantasmal killer

9th dream, telepathic bond

Somnomancer

1st-level Dreamwalker feature

As a bonus action you can enter a demi-sleep for 1 minute, suspending your mind between a state of waking and dreaming. While you are in a demi-sleep, your movement speed becomes halved, you can’t be put to sleep, and you have advantage on saving throws made to maintain concentration.

Moreover, when you enter a demi-sleep, you can regain a number of hit points equal to 1d6 + your Charisma modifier. At the start of each of your turns afterwards, you can regain hit points again by spending a Hit Die, and you can add your Charisma modifier instead of your Constitution modifier.

You can end a demi-sleep early as a bonus action. You can enter a demi-sleep a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus before you must finish a long rest to enter a demi-sleep again.

Lesser Projection

6th-level Dreamwalker feature

Your connection to the astral plane allows an echo of your astral body to walk the material plane. When you enter a demi-sleep, you can create a misty imitation of your astral body within 5 feet of yourself. Your mist body resembles your mortal form made of dimly-colored mist. It has a number of hit points equal to three times your sorcerer level, uses your AC, and has a hover speed equal to your walking speed. Any rolls your mist body makes are made with your usual modifiers.

You can see and hear through your astral body as if you occupied its space, and you can act through it as if it was your own body, including casting spells.

When your demi-sleep ends, you can spend 2 sorcery points to transport your material body to your mist body, leaving you awake in your mist body’s space. If your mist body drops to 0 hit points or is more than 300 feet from your material body, it immediately disappears, and your demi-sleep ends.

Once you project a mist body, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a spell slot of 3rd-level or higher to use it again.

Dream Shepherd

14th-level Dreamwalker feature

You can lead other creatures into the world of dreams, and you can carry them physically through the dreams of others. When you cast dream and act as the messenger, you can spend up to 5 sorcery points. For each sorcery point you spend, you can bring an additional creature into the trance and into the target’s dream. Once you enter the target’s dream, the other creatures you bring appear as misty images of themselves trailing behind you. They are aware of their surroundings and can speak to you or the dreamer, but otherwise cannot take actions.

When the spell ends, you can choose to use the mind of the dreamer as a pathway to travel the material plane. You and each creature in the trance disappear, skim through the astral plane, and reappear in unoccupied spaces within 30 feet of the dreamer. If the dreamer is unwilling, they make a Charisma saving throw against your spell save DC. If you have a portion of the target’s body, it makes the save with disadvantage. On a success, you and other creatures in the trance are not transported.

Beyond the Veil of Sleep

18th-level Dreamwalker feature

Your misty projections become more powerful. Your mist body has the same number of hit points as you, and it can travel up to 1 mile away from you without disappearing. In addition, when you create the projection you can choose for your mist body to appear identical to you or to appear like another creature of size Small or Medium. Finally, if you choose, your mist body is indistinguishable from a real body unless a creature uses magic to examine it.
